ART SPRING SCHOOL 2018 captures and celebrates exploration and creativity, bringing out your inner artist and fueling your passion to make art. Whether you are an established artist or a beginner, you will find new possibilities and challenges for creative expression.
What better way to celebrate spring than in an artist’s studio with like-minded people and fabulous food, making art you will love. Come and play with Thea Bates, of Art in an Hour- and her colleagues in her studio.
Spend two days (with a bonus third day) being curious, finding freedom in your art and trying new things. Take home work you will love and a kitbag of new skills and techniques. Enjoy a flexible program where you can choose your own learning.
- Unlock your inner artist with Thea. Treat your inner artist like a child to be supported and nurtured, with a variety of strategies, techniques and media. Go home with art you will love.
- Drawing from Life each afternoon with Eureka, aka Michael O’Hanlon. Maybe some costume drawing too.
- Life Design Lab with Davia McMillan. Step in and experience creative self-exploration. Start to design a life you will love. A lovely way to spend your Sunday.
- Finesse your work with Kate Rijs, an artist and teacher, who takes her own art to an extraordinary level and can show you how.
- Enjoy delicious food. Lunches by local caterer, Jenny Busst of Sweet Nektar.
What do I bring? You are encouraged to bring your own inks, paints (no oils please), drawing tools and paper. However basic materials will be provided. Best to bring a folio to take your work home in, and an old shirt too!

Who are the tutors?
Thea Bates – Art in an Hour, is a qualified art teacher, visual artist and creative practitioner. She loves to engage people in their own and sometimes challenged creativity, offering strategies and techniques that leave tentative artists surprised and amazed by what they can do. Thea brings her extensive experience, both within and outside the creative arts genre, to support participants achieve extraordinary results. Eureka – Michael O’Hanlon, is an artist and activist. His art making pushes boundaries in content and technique. Eureka uses a variety of media including painting, drawing and photomontage. His art teaching is informed by his skills in working with groups and communities, and by his experiences at international residencies in Berlin 2014, Venice 2016, Pennsylvania 2017 and Spain 2018. He has just returned from taking classes in New York City and has some new ideas to share with you.
